Committee Member Description

Organizational Description:

Somos Seattle is an organization for the 2SLGBTQ+ (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer plus) Latinx community. Our mission is to build an active community, share resources and foster spaces for learning and growth.

Position Summary:

Somos Seattle is governed by 7-9 members of our Board of Directors, which are tasked to organize and support events, oversee annual budgets and expenses, establish organizational strategy & goals, oversee programs and metrics of success, as well as design scopes of work for volunteers, contractors, and staff. 

The Board oversees the four (4) Committees which are comprised of Board & Community members to help lead Somos Seattle work.

Length of Term & Commitment: 

  • 1 year with the option to renew for a second term automatically. 

  • Attend monthly Committee meetings. 

  • Attend and promote Somos Seattle events, fundraising and programming.

Responsibilities of The Committees:

  • Communications Committee - is responsible for guiding and supporting the Board of Directors and Social Media Manager in developing and maintaining Somos Seattle’s communications, marketing, and branding strategy.

  • Events Committee - is responsible for the planning and execution of Somos Seattle signature events.

  • Finance Committee - is responsible for the financial wellbeing and advisement of Somos Seattle funding for a sustainable growth and future.

  • Governance Committee - is responsible for the development of strategy and policy for term sustainability of Somos Seattle.

Qualifications include:

  • Must have strong interpersonal communication habits.

  • Skilled in google-docs for collaborative assignments.

  • Have access to a computer or phone to join virtual meetings.

  • LGBTQ & Latinx experiences and cultural knowledge.
