Somos Seattle exists to create spaces where Latinx culture, community, and connection thrive.

As Somos Seattle continues to grow, we are seeking passionate community members interested in helping shape the future of queer Latinx community in the Pacific Northwest through leadership, collaboration, advocacy, fundraising, and community-building.

Whether you have prior nonprofit experience or simply a passion for supporting and uplifting our community, we welcome you to apply.

ABOUT SOMOS

Somos is a community-centered organization serving the queer/2SLGBTQIA+ Latinx community across the Pacific Northwest through cultural programming, community events, advocacy, and intentional spaces for connection and belonging.

 

BOARD MEMBER OPPORTUNITY

Position Summary

Members of the Board of Directors help guide the strategic direction, sustainability, and growth of Somos. Board members support organizational planning, fundraising, partnerships, community engagement, and signature events while helping ensure the long-term success of the organization and its mission.

 

BOARD TERM & COMMITMENT

  • Two-year term

  • Eligible for consideration for one additional term

  • Attend monthly board meetings (approximately two hours)

  • Participate in organizational events, fundraising efforts, and committee work

  • Support the organization through advocacy, outreach, fundraising participation, volunteerism, and/or personally meaningful contributions

  • Participation in one or more committees (Communications, Events, Finance, Governance)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

  • Support and advance the mission of Somos

  • Help guide organizational strategy and long-term planning

  • Support fundraising and partnership development efforts

  • Assist with oversight of organizational programs, budgets, and initiatives

  • Enhance the organization’s visibility and community relationships

  • Participate in board discussions, planning sessions, and events

  • Support the development of sustainable and inclusive organizational practices

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF INDIVIDUAL BOARD MEMBERS

Each board member is expected to:

  • Act as an ambassador for Somos and its mission

  • Prepare for and actively participate in board meetings and organizational events

  • Collaborate respectfully and professionally with fellow board members, volunteers, and community partners

  • Support community outreach and engagement efforts

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding internal organizational matters

  • Contribute skills, experience, perspectives, and ideas that strengthen the organization

 

AREAS OF INTEREST & EXPERIENCE

We welcome applicants with experience, skills, or interest in areas such as:

  • Community organizing

  • Event planning

  • Fundraising & development

  • Marketing & communications

  • Social media & creative design

  • Finance or operations

  • Volunteer coordination

  • Advocacy & outreach

  • Corporate or community partnerships

  • Nonprofit leadership

  • Cultural programming

No single applicant is expected to have experience in every area.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should:

  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Be comfortable collaborating in a team environment

  • Have access to a computer or phone for virtual meetings

  • Have an understanding of queer/2SLGBTQIA+ and Latinx community experiences and cultural knowledge

  • Be willing to actively support the mission and growth of Somos

  • Seattle Latinx Pride — El Centro de La Raza — Saturday, July 18, 2026
